Empowering Forces Through Digital Autonomy
The Internet of Edges (IoE) is a disruptive digital infrastructure designed to digitize battlefield and rescue operations with enhanced resilience, sovereignty, and performance. Its decentralized approach empowers each ground asset with digital capabilities, federating them into intelligent teams that achieve both local autonomy and global interoperability. The IoE technology received the UAF label for its use by the French Armed Forces.
Distribution of Digital Infrastructure Across Ground Assets
The Internet of Edges embeds networking and computing capabilities into various edge devices such as IoT, people, drones, robots, and vehicles. This allows groups of devices to connect and share digital services directly and autonomously, without relying on existing infrastructure.
Federation of Decentralized Intelligence
The IoE operates without a central server, instead relying on distributed and synchronized servers among edge devices. This ensures continuity of services and data integrity while in motion, preventing any single point of failure in the digital infrastructure. As a result, a device can join or leave the network without disrupting services or causing data loss.
Local Autonomy and Global Interoperability
IoE utilizes Internet protocols and standardized technologies to ensure that forces’ communications are both autonomous and interoperable. IoE allows groups of devices operating in multiple locations to be interconnected through other networks and secure tunnels, enabling them to interact with remote users, servers, and services as needed.
APPLICATIONS
The Internet of Edges (IoE), integrated into wearable equipment and ground assets (e.g., drones, robots, and vehicles), connects these elements through a self-configuring wireless direct communication network. The network embeds local applications, such as geo-location and real-time voice and video, operating autonomously from any existing infrastructure.
When combined with a 4G/5G tactical cell, the IoE extends the tactical cell’s coverage to isolated areas, including behind walls, deep indoors, underground, and over the sea, by using direct communications with relays between ground assets. Even when isolated, the local applications and services remain available to the forces, as they operate without a central server.
IoE technology benefits boarding teams by connecting personnel through a direct communication network composed of wearable equipment and portable relays, which together form a network with embedded digital services. This allows the boarding team to remain connected while navigating large metal framework vessels, as the direct communication network relays the signal over multiple hops, even deep indoors. Even when isolated, IoE’s local applications and services remain available to the forces, as they operate without a central server.
The Internet of Edges (IoE), integrated into wearable equipment and portable relays, creates an autonomous digital infrastructure that can be deployed on the fly in constrained environments. This infrastructure enables the direct transfer of voice conversations and other application traffic among rescue forces, operating independently of any existing infrastructure.
When combined with a 4G/5G tactical cell, the IoE extends the cell’s coverage to isolated areas, including behind walls, deep indoors, and underground, by using direct communications with relays between personnel, drones, robots, and vehicles equiped with the IoE technology.
Even when isolated, the digital applications and services such as Mission Critical Push To Talk (MCPTT) remain available to the rescue forces, as IoE’s applications operate without a central server.
The IoE is an ad hoc digital infrastructure, independent of any existing systems, designed for rapid deployment in emergencies to restore connectivity with services and facilitate reconnaissance operations at sensitive sites.
USE CASES
Digitization and automation of battlefields and rescue operations.
BENEFITS
PERFORMANCE
IoE provides edge devices with a high-bandwidth direct communications network, enabling the transfer of real-time videos over multiple wireless hops. By relocating services closer to the data source and end-users, latency is reduced.
SCALABILITY
IoE’s network is a vast mesh of edge devices, ranging from groups of autonomous robots to the infrastructure of industrial sites, cities, or entire territories. Our patented routing software has demonstrated exceptional performance in both scale and robustness.
SOVEREIGNTY
Data sources and destinations are either directly connected or accessible via short distribution channels through IoE. This approach minimizes unnecessary data travel through third-party networks and servers, enhancing control over data management.
HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
IoE establishes new short distribution channels for local traffic, which accounts for 50% of the global datasphere. This innovation not only conserves global Internet and cloud resources but also significantly reduces the carbon footprint of local communications by up to 16 times.
